“With more than 100 years’ experience, Vinci Construction Terrassement covers all aspects of infrastructure and facilities construction, whatever the size or complexity of the project. We are able to manage projects of all sizes thanks to our expertise in surveying, our ability to think ahead, our holistic vision and our approach to skills management, which forms part of an ambitious HR policy. Until the 1980s, Vinci Construction Terrassement specialised solely in earthwork and large-scale public works. We subsequently expanded our areas of expertise to enable us to manage linear infrastructure projects more effectively. Now that the French government is no longer commissioning major projects, Vinci Construction Terrassement has adopted a brand-new strategy focused on regional and international opportunities. As such, its business activities have undergone a complete transformation. My job is to support the company through these changes. We are a construction business that is built on its human resources. As we rarely subcontract, our teams are key to our strategy. We are reliant on having employees with the right skills in the right place at the right time, as well as on processes that make it easier to coordinate both internally and with the various external stakeholders involved. Strategic workforce planning is therefore vital to what we do.
We drew up an action plan to manage this process of change and transformation. In our view, it was vital that we could, on the one hand, monitor whether managers understood and bought into this plan and, on the other, identify potential problem areas and what remedial measures to put in place. We were interested in Bleexo because it allowed us to do just this, unlike the annual survey we had been using previously. It helps us understand how well employees in different departments understand this plan. With Bleexo, we can give each manager accurate, analytical insights – wherever they are working.
From an HR perspective, what I find interesting about Bleexo are the specific topics it covers, such as quality of work life, HR development, training and recognition through pay. The more nuanced indicators offered by Bleexo mean that I can make adjustments with my team.
A few years ago, the culture at Vinci Construction Terrassement was based very much on feelings and hearsay. Bleexo marks a shift in our management approach. This kind of internal survey gives us meaningful, factual insights to work with. We can compare what we hear and confirm or disprove vague feelings with hard objective data and statistics. With Bleexo, we can ensure that all our teams are moving forward together at the same pace; it helps us keep them in sync.
In addition to quantitative and statistical analyses, we also publish qualitative analyses. Bleexo allows us to put in place relevant action plans that support employees and boost performance. For example, by carrying out such an analysis, we were able to identify that levels of understanding of the company strategy varied. On the basis of this finding, the Management Commitment has decided to organise a roadshow in the coming weeks to clarify this strategy, with events held locally to connect with teams working on the ground.
To give another example, following changes to employees’ entitlement to training under French law, we knew that there was a sense of frustration internally, a lack of understanding, even though we were investing a bit more in this area each year. By using Bleexo, we were able to pinpoint employees’ needs and the issues facing them and are now working on a toolbox covering all aspects of training to respond to these.
We are a big group and we use a number of digital platforms. I have to say that, aside from its content, Bleexo is also well designed. It’s very practical and user-friendly. This is really important as, to be a good manager, you need to have the right resources to do your day-to-day job. In this respect, Bleexo is a highly agile tool for managers.
